Food costs have increased by 10.1% while energy costs have risen 34.6%. It’s true. It’s true.

The economics of energy are somewhat alarming. On average, energy services have increased by more than 20%. Direct electricity costs 10.6% more while natural gas-sourced electricity costs a staggering 30.2%. While electricity from non-natural gasses is increasing, it also shows that electricity from solar and wind sources is going to be much cheaper.  This is because you can create your own electricity using solar energy and sell the excess to the power grid. It’s a win/win situation.

2. Uncertainty about availability

There is more uncertainty. Future availability of solar panel and solar power system materials/resources is uncertain. We’ll be focusing on the current tariffs that the Solar Energy system space faces. This is a very important topic and we plan to continue talking about it in the months ahead. In essence, in March 2022, the Department of Commerce in California launched an investigation that resulted in the halting of the importation of solar panels.

It doesn’t matter if this investigation is valid. Most panels (up to 90%) were sourced from southeast Asian nations, because these were the most economically viable places to make them. However, the March investigation halted the US imports from nearly any country. Now, it’s June 6, 2022, and President Joe Biden has announced that his administration will allow importation of these panels for 24 months. The Defense Production Act will then be used to encourage increased domestic production. This means that we will have a 2-year break and the ability to obtain the equipment necessary to make it affordable. But, this executive action will expire in 2 years. This could lead to an exponential rise in the cost for solar projects and installation .

3. Climate Change

It’s here and it’s terrible. Already, we are already feeling the effects (especially in Florida and other warm areas), and it won’t stop unless we act. We have depended on greenhouse gasses from the combustion of nonrenewable resources, which has resulted in a decreased quality of life. The beach house that you longed to retire to in 2045. Due to rising sea levels, it may be submerged. Extreme temperatures could make the tropical paradise you once dreamed of uninhabitable. You’ll have noticed that each year is getting hotter and the temperatures are rising due to climate change. Renewable energy is one of the key keys to halting or at least reducing the impacts of climate change by 2050 (the international plan to avoid the worst).

It is not only smart but a necessity to switch to the solar energy system. It may not be possible economically, but if we are more aware of the benefits and needs of solar energy systems, it will be easier for us to make the switch. It is time to make the switch.
